Dubai Traffic Fines: The Complete Guide for Drivers (2026)
Published 14 March 2026

How Dubai Traffic Fines Work
Traffic fines in Dubai are managed by Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). They are issued automatically through radar cameras, manually by officers, or via the RTA parking enforcement system. Every fine comes with a monetary penalty and, in many cases, black points on your licence.
Black points accumulate over 12 months. Reach 24 and your licence gets suspended. Some serious offences carry immediate impoundment of the vehicle, regardless of points. Fines can be checked and paid through the Dubai Police app, the RTA app, or at any customer service centre.
Speeding Fines
Dubai has essentially zero tolerance for speeding. Radars trigger at just 1 km/h over the posted limit. The fines scale with severity:
- 1-20 km/h over: AED 300 - 21-30 km/h over: AED 600 + 6 black points - 31-40 km/h over: AED 700 + 6 black points - 41-50 km/h over: AED 1,000 + 6 black points - 51-60 km/h over: AED 1,500 + 6 black points + 15-day impound - 61-80 km/h over: AED 2,000 + 12 black points + 30-day impound - Over 80 km/h above limit: AED 3,000 + 23 black points + 60-day impound
Fixed and mobile radars are everywhere. Download Waze or use Google Maps for live camera alerts.
Red Light and Dangerous Driving Fines
Running a red light is one of the most expensive traffic offences in Dubai: AED 1,000, 12 black points, and 30 days of vehicle impoundment. Cameras at most intersections catch this automatically.
Other dangerous driving fines include:
- Reckless driving: AED 2,000 + 23 black points + 60-day impound - Racing on public roads: AED 3,000 + 23 black points + 60-day impound + vehicle confiscation - Tailgating: AED 400 + 4 black points - Overtaking from the hard shoulder: AED 1,000 + 6 black points - Failing to give way to emergency vehicles: AED 1,000 + 6 black points
Phone, Seatbelt, and In-Car Fines
Using your phone while driving costs AED 800 and 4 black points. This includes texting, browsing, or holding the phone to your ear. Hands-free systems are allowed.
- Not wearing a seatbelt (driver): AED 400 + 4 black points - Not wearing a seatbelt (passenger): AED 400 - Children under 10 in the front seat: AED 400 - Throwing litter from a vehicle: AED 1,000 + 6 black points - Driving without a valid licence: AED 5,000 + 23 black points + 90-day impound - Driving an unregistered vehicle: AED 500 + 4 black points
Parking Fines
Parking fines in Dubai are managed by the RTA and enforced by wardens and cameras.
- Parking in a no-parking zone: AED 500 - Parking in a disabled space without a permit: AED 1,000 - Double parking: AED 500 - Blocking a driveway: AED 500 - Overstaying a paid parking meter: AED 100-200 - Parking on a pavement: AED 400
Paid parking zones are active from 8 AM to 10 PM in most areas. Pay through the RTA mParking app, by SMS, or at the meters. Friday paid parking hours vary by zone.
How to Check and Pay Your Fines
There are several ways to check if you have any outstanding traffic fines in Dubai:
The Dubai Police app shows all police-issued fines with full details. The RTA Dubai app shows parking and RTA-related fines. You can also check on the Dubai Police website by entering your licence plate or traffic file number.
Payment options include the Dubai Police app, RTA app, any GDRFA or police service centre, Dubai Pay, and most banks' online banking portals. Some fines qualify for a 25% discount if paid within a certain period.
What If You Get a Fine in a Rental Car?
If you get a traffic fine while driving a rental car, the fine is registered against the vehicle and then passed on to you by the rental company. Most companies will deduct the fine amount from your security deposit.
Some companies add an admin fee of AED 50 to AED 100 per fine on top. At LuxeClub, we charge only the fine amount with no admin fee, and we always show you the official screenshot from Dubai Police so you can verify the fine is real.
If a rental company claims you incurred a fine, always ask for proof. A legitimate fine will have a reference number, date, time, location, and the offence details. If they cannot produce this, push back.
