The Ultimate Dubai Mall Guide: Every Major Mall, How to Get There & Where to Park
Published 31 March 2026
Why You Need a Car to Mall-Hop in Dubai
Dubai has more mall floor space per capita than any other city in the world. The major malls are spread across the city from Deira in the north to Ibn Battuta in the south, and while the Metro connects some of them, the most efficient way to visit multiple malls in a single day is by car.
The distances involved are the key reason. Dubai Mall to Mall of the Emirates is 15 km. Mall of the Emirates to Ibn Battuta is another 15 km. Ibn Battuta to City Centre Deira is 30 km. Trying to do this by Metro involves multiple line changes, long walks through connecting corridors, and at least 45 minutes per leg. By car, each hop is 10–20 minutes.
Parking at Dubai's malls is free for the first 2–4 hours at most major malls, which means a rental car actually saves you money compared to taxis if you are visiting two or more malls in a day. This guide covers every major mall — how to get there, where to park, what you need to know about access, and the practical tips that most tourist guides skip.
The Dubai Mall — Downtown Dubai
The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world by total area and the most visited shopping destination on the planet. Over 1,200 stores, an ice rink, an aquarium, a cinema complex, and direct access to the Burj Khalifa observation deck.
Getting there by car: From Sheikh Zayed Road, take the Financial Centre Road exit. Follow signs to Dubai Mall — the road funnels directly into the parking structure. From Dubai Marina, the drive is approximately 25 minutes via Sheikh Zayed Road. From Jumeirah Beach, take Al Wasl Road or Jumeirah Road east toward Downtown.
Parking: The Dubai Mall has over 14,000 parking spaces across multiple levels. First 4 hours are free. After that, it is AED 20 per hour. Valet parking is available at the Grand Atrium and Fashion Avenue entrances for AED 60–100 depending on the time.
Tips: The parking structure is enormous and confusing. Take a photo of your level, zone, and bay number — the mall has a car-finder system on the app but it requires registration. The Fashion Avenue parking (P7) is the least crowded and closest to the luxury shopping wing. The Cinema parking (Grand Parking) fills up on weekend evenings by 7 PM.
Metro access: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Red Line, followed by a 15-minute walk through a covered, air-conditioned walkway. By car is faster and more comfortable, especially in summer.
Opening hours: 10 AM–12 AM Sunday to Wednesday, 10 AM–1 AM Thursday to Saturday. During Ramadan and DSF (Dubai Shopping Festival), hours are extended.
Mall of the Emirates — Al Barsha
Mall of the Emirates is the second-largest mall in Dubai and home to Ski Dubai, the indoor ski slope that is probably the most surreal attraction in the entire city. Over 630 stores, a 14-screen VOX cinema, and one of the best food courts in the Gulf.
Getting there by car: Directly accessible from Sheikh Zayed Road via the Mall of the Emirates interchange. The exit is well-signposted. From Dubai Marina, it is a 10-minute drive east on Sheikh Zayed Road. From Downtown Dubai, take Sheikh Zayed Road west — approximately 15 minutes.
Parking: Over 7,000 spaces across multiple levels. First 4 hours are free. AED 20 per hour after that. The parking is easier to navigate than Dubai Mall because the structure is simpler. Valet parking is available at the main entrance for AED 50.
Tips: Level 2 of the Cinema parking wing is the least congested on weekends. The Ski Dubai entrance has its own parking section — use it if you are visiting the slopes, as it is directly connected. The Harvey Nichols entrance parking is the closest to the luxury wing.
Metro access: Mall of the Emirates station on the Red Line — the station connects directly to the mall via a bridge. This is one of the few malls where the Metro is genuinely convenient.
Opening hours: 10 AM–12 AM Sunday to Wednesday, 10 AM–1 AM Thursday to Saturday.
Ibn Battuta Mall — Jebel Ali
Ibn Battuta Mall is Dubai's most architecturally interesting mall — themed around the travels of the 14th-century Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta, with six courts representing China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia, and Andalusia. It is also one of the longest malls in the world at 1.2 km from end to end.
Getting there by car: Located at the western end of Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Abu Dhabi border. From Dubai Marina, it is a 15-minute drive west. From Downtown Dubai, approximately 30 minutes via Sheikh Zayed Road. The exit is well-signposted.
Parking: Over 5,000 spaces. First 3 hours are free, then AED 20 per hour. The parking is long and narrow, matching the mall's linear layout — park near the court you want to visit or you will walk for 15 minutes.
Tips: The Persia Court is the most photographed section — the domed ceiling is worth seeing even if you are not shopping. The food court in the China Court is one of the better ones in Dubai. Because of the mall's distance from the city centre, it is significantly less crowded than Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates, especially on weekdays.
Metro access: Ibn Battuta station on the Red Line, directly connected to the mall. The Metro is convenient here and avoids the long drive from central Dubai.
Opening hours: 10 AM–10 PM Sunday to Wednesday, 10 AM–12 AM Thursday to Saturday.
Dubai Marina Mall, City Walk, Mercato & Other Notable Malls
Dubai Marina Mall — A smaller, more relaxed mall directly on the Marina waterfront. About 140 stores, a Waitrose supermarket, and several waterfront restaurants. Parking is free for the first 2 hours, AED 10/hour after. Access from Sheikh Zayed Road via the JBR/Marina exit. Popular with Marina residents and tourists staying in JBR hotels. Good for casual shopping and waterfront dining without the overwhelming scale of Dubai Mall.
City Walk — An open-air lifestyle district in Al Wasl rather than a traditional enclosed mall. Boutique shops, restaurants, a cinema, and the Green Planet indoor rainforest. Parking is metered at AED 4/hour in the outdoor lots, with some free parking in the evening. Best accessed from Al Safa Street. The open-air layout makes it best suited to visits between October and April when the weather is comfortable.
Mercato Mall — An Italian Renaissance-themed mall in Jumeirah. Smaller (about 90 stores) and quieter than the mega-malls, with a genuine neighbourhood feel. Free parking, rarely crowded. Good for a quick visit combined with a drive along Jumeirah Beach Road. Located on Jumeirah Beach Road itself, easy to access from anywhere along the coast.
Wafi Mall — An Egyptian-themed mall near Dubai Healthcare City. Features the underground Khan Murjan Souk (modelled on the 14th-century souk in Baghdad) which is one of the best atmospheric dining experiences in Dubai. Free parking, rarely crowded. Worth visiting for the souk alone.
Dubai Festival City Mall — On the Creek in Festival City, with direct waterfront views and the IMAGINE light, water, and laser show in the evenings (free, every 30 minutes after dark). Over 400 stores, an IKEA, and a Robinsons department store. Parking is free for the first 4 hours. Access from Sheikh Zayed Road via the Festival City interchange. Less touristy than Dubai Mall, more popular with residents.
Nakheel Mall, Palm Jumeirah — Located at the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah with views across the crescent. About 300 stores and direct access to The View at the Palm observation deck. Parking is free. Access via the Palm Jumeirah monorail or by car along the Palm trunk road.
Practical Tips for Mall-Hopping by Car
Plan your route by geography, not by preference. Dubai malls are spread north-to-south along Sheikh Zayed Road. Start at one end and work your way along rather than zigzagging across the city. A sensible day route: Ibn Battuta (west) → Mall of the Emirates (central-west) → Dubai Mall (central-east), or the reverse.
Go on weekday mornings. Dubai malls are busiest on Friday and Saturday evenings (the Gulf weekend). If you want to park easily and shop without crowds, visit Sunday to Wednesday between 10 AM and 2 PM. The malls are air-conditioned to 22°C regardless of outside temperature, so there is no reason to avoid daytime visits even in summer.
Download the mall apps. Dubai Mall has an app with a store directory, car-finder, and indoor navigation. Mall of the Emirates has a similar one. Both are useful for finding specific stores in malls that are genuinely large enough to get lost in.
Use the free parking strategically. Most malls offer 3–4 hours free. If you are visiting for longer (which is easy to do at Dubai Mall), move your car to a different parking section to reset the timer, or switch to the valet for the final hour.
Bring a jacket. The air conditioning inside Dubai malls is aggressive. The temperature difference between outside (35–45°C) and inside (20–22°C) can be 20+ degrees. A light jacket or cardigan saves you from the permanent chill.
Salik tolls between malls. Driving between malls may take you through one or more Salik gates on Sheikh Zayed Road. Each crossing costs AED 4–6. Budget for 2–3 Salik charges on a multi-mall day. These are billed to your rental car and passed through at cost.
Luxury car parking. If you are driving a supercar or high-end SUV from our fleet, use the valet parking at Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. The valets at these malls are experienced with high-value cars and will park them in dedicated areas with more space and fewer neighbouring vehicles. The AED 50–100 valet fee is worth it for the peace of mind.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dubai Malls
Is parking free at Dubai malls? Most major malls offer 3–4 hours of free parking. Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates offer 4 hours free. Ibn Battuta offers 3 hours free. After that, rates are typically AED 20 per hour. Smaller malls like Mercato and Wafi offer unlimited free parking.
What are mall opening hours? Most malls open at 10 AM and close at midnight (Sunday–Wednesday) or 1 AM (Thursday–Saturday). During Ramadan and Dubai Shopping Festival, hours are extended. Individual stores may close earlier than the mall itself.
Can I visit all the major malls in one day? Possible but exhausting. Dubai Mall alone can take 3–4 hours if you are browsing seriously. A realistic one-day plan covers 2–3 malls with time to eat and rest between them. With a car, the driving between malls is short (10–20 minutes each hop) so the limitation is energy, not logistics.
Do I need to dress modestly in Dubai malls? Yes — shoulders and knees should be covered in malls. This is a posted rule at most mall entrances and security may ask you to cover up if you are in beachwear or very revealing clothing. Smart casual is the norm. Dubai Mall's Fashion Avenue wing tends to be the most formally dressed; Marina Mall is the most casual.
Is there a best day to avoid crowds? Sunday to Wednesday mornings are the quietest. Friday evening is the busiest time at virtually every mall. During Dubai Shopping Festival (December–January) and Eid holidays, all malls are significantly busier than normal.
