The current-generation Escalade is Cadillac's answer to "a Range Rover-competitor sized for American families." The 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 delivers 420bhp with the effortless mid-range torque that has been the American V8 signature for decades. Ride quality is Magnetic Ride Control adaptive damping (the same technology Corvette and Camaro ZL1 use), and the third row is genuinely usable for adult passengers rather than the token perches many three-row SUVs offer.

Against the Range Rover Vogue, the Escalade is larger with three-row seating; the Vogue is more compact with five seats only.
